About Kathy
Kathy Reynolds is a multi-talented artist with a career spanning various creative fields and locations. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, her childhood was filled with freedom and exploration, setting the stage for a lifetime in the arts. By 14, she was already charting her path in theatre.
Kathy's mother, a cartoonist, and her brother, a technical drawer, fostered her early interest in art. She pursued photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design and the Academy of Art in San Francisco but is mainly self-taught in painting. She augmented her skills with seminars and completed a significant program at the Milan Art Institute in 2021.
Reynolds spent over 30 years as a professional Stage Manager in theatre. In between gigs, she explored portrait photography, jewelry design, and pottery. The 2020 pandemic paused the theatre industry, leading her to focus entirely on visual arts.
Her art is inspired by human experiences, with subject matter ranging from human forms to butterflies. Emotionally driven, her works often combine form and abstract elements. She employs a varied creative process, starting with mark making, collage, and layering with acrylic inks and paints, and finishing with oils. Texture is a key feature of her work.
Her technique evolved through experimentation with different materials like paint, ink, spray paint, and collage. Kathy's current projects are her favorites, reflecting her ongoing evolution as an artist. She draws inspiration from artists around her, both physically and digitally. She has shown her work at ArtSpace Versailles and received awards like third place in Arts on the Green. She also participates in major art fairs including the Berea Craft Festival, St. James Court Art Show, and Madison Chautauqua.
Feedback from admirers highlights her talent. One noted, "Love the moose. They look great! So much talent," while another said, "Thank you for making life a little more beautiful."
Outside her studio, Kathy enjoys time by the pool or lake with her family. She still works part-time as an Executive Producer in theatre, which complements her artistic work.
Reynolds aspires to make art her full-time career, aiming to spread joy, love, and inspiration globally. She believes art has a profound role in society and strives to make the world more beautiful, one textured brushstroke at a time.
